Four Items You Need For Wedding Photography

If you are a wedding photographer, then you know how important it is to be ready with all sorts of equipment because it is the biggest day for the couple's lives. But if you are just a beginning photographer who would like to take wedding photos and perhaps make a business out of it someday, it's important to do your research and find out what items you need to make it happen. Here is a list of the basic things you should purchase for your professional kit.

• Camera body – Of course the first thing you should buy if you are going professional is a camera body. SLR's and DSLR's (digital) usually are sold in this fashion and you can buy the lenses separately. This is especially wise if you don't have the money to invest in everything at one time. If you can find a camera body that comes with a stock lens, that's even better but the chances are that you will end up spending more on the stock lens which you might not use so much in the future once you have other lenses.

• Lenses – Nothing happens without camera lenses so make sure that you invest in one or two once you have the DSLR body in your possession. A good lens to start with is a wide-angle. You will most probably use this the most when you take wedding shots because this allows for more things to fit into one frame. This is perfect when you are taking those family shots or when the people start throwing the rice up in the air onto the bride and groom. You will capture more than just the bride and groom walking out of the church.

If you are far away during a wedding ceremony and there's no way to get nearer to where the action happens, you may want to invest in a telephoto lens. The telephoto lens will also be a mainstay in your kit or camera body. The lens is perfect for taking shots up close and personal or up to a certain distance. You can buy a medium telephoto lens or a full telephoto lens depending on the distance that you want to cover.

• External Flash – Yes, a camera does have a flash built into its body but that's where the problem starts. Since it is stuck to the body, the flash range is not so great so you will end up with pictures that have darker backgrounds. An external flash is much stronger and can be adjusted in ways that will allow you to provide light in places that need it the most. You can even detach the flash if you like and remotely operate it but this will require that you have an attachment on the camera that “communicates” with the flash unit.

• Tripod – For the relaxing moments where you need a steady shot, a tripod is the best thing to have at a wedding. This will help you get the best shots with the least effort and you don't have to worry about getting a good, straight shot.
